Here are some of the projects that I have worked on so far.
- Autonomous Robotic Platform
- Development of Three Dimensional Photonic Integrated Circuits through a Bottom-Up Approach
- Second Personal Desktop
- First Personal Desktop
Autonomous Robotic Platform
Introduction to Engineering Design at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – Fall 2010
Tinya Cheng, Brian Deignan, Kevin Keating, Michelle Kennedy, Aimee Konet, Ian Marinaccio, Samuel Stouffer
- Designed and built an autonomous mobile robotic platform to assist in moving objects for the wheelchair bound, based on feedback from a local nursing home.
- Uses two ultrasonic rangefinders mounted on the front of the robot (right/left side) for sensory input.
- Arduino UNO microcontroller programmed to process sensory data using an algorithm to follow a wheelchair with a flat board mounted to the back.
- Platform tested to hold up to 150 lbs. while stationary; 20 lbs. tested while mobile – maximum load while mobile unknown.

Development of Three Dimensional Photonic Integrated Circuits through a Bottom-Up Approach
Laboratory for Nano and Micro Photonics at Queens College – Summer 2007
Tinya Cheng, Nischay Kumar; with mentor Vinod M. Menon
- Researched the feasibility of photonic integrated circuits developed in layers from the bottom up in a mentored 2-person team.
- Second place award in Physics (Team) at the 2008 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
- Third place award from the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) at Intel ISEF for best projects in the area of Optics and Photonics Engineering.

Second Personal Desktop
Fall 2008
PSU on first homebuilt blew out a few days before moving to school. Wasn’t worth it to repair a single-core computer (quad-cores were out in the market) since the PSU probably took some other parts with it.
